Message of President of the Republic on occasion of 62nd anniversary of Victory Day
President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune sent on Monday a message to mark the 62nd anniversary of Victory Day, which was translated into English by APS:
"In the name of Allah, Most Gracious and Most Merciful, peace be upon His Messenger,
My fellow citizens,
On 19 March, we celebrate Victory Day, a solemn national occasion on which we recall with pride the relentless struggle and immeasurable sacrifices of the Algerian people for freedom during the glorious War of Liberation, which resulted in independence and the recovery of national sovereignty, after the trials and tribulations endured by the people with patience and resilience.
This occasion, whose 62nd anniversary we are celebrating today, marks a turning point following a long course of national struggle as part of the National Movement and an armed struggle that lasted seven and a half years, during which the Algerian people paid a heavy price through legions of martyrs, a struggle that remains engraved in history as one of the greatest epics defending freedom and dignity in modern times.
The dawn of Algerian independence emerged from this historic event, after more than one hundred and thirty years of colonial domination, to shatter the illusion of "French Algeria" to which the colonizers clung, but who finally understood, and the world, that the brave revolutionaries who faced the machine of war and destruction and the scorched earth policy with the determination of valiant fighters, had sealed their fate: death as a martyr or victory.
As we celebrate, this 19 March, the anniversary of Victory Day to renew the commitment made to the valiant Shuhadas, we are more determined than ever to move forward, in the new Algeria, to achieve the objectives outlined by the perennial message of November, thus strengthening national sovereignty and the independence of national decision-making, by working tirelessly and vigorously to raise our national economy to levels of efficiency and competitiveness, but also by endeavouring to maintain the social character of the State through a continuous consolidation of the unprecedented gains achieved on a large scale with a view to ensuring a dignified life and preserving the dignity of citizens.
Fellow citizens,
We are celebrating this memorable anniversary in a regional and international context that calls for everyone to join forces to unite the ranks, strengthen the home front and priorities in accordance with a national strategic perspective, based on the need to fully assume our responsibilities in the face of the challenges facing our country. These include the concern to preserve the broad collective contribution to preserving the stability of the Algerian people in an environment marked by tensions that threaten peace and security in the region and in a world beset by complex conflicts, struggles and polarizations.
On this occasion, I would like to salute the citizens for their high national consciousness and I welcome the commendable efforts of those involved in the associative movement and civil society.
I would also like to pay tribute to the brave men and women of the People's National Army (ANP) who guard our borders, and to the security forces who ensure the peace and serenity of society, demonstrating the utmost vigilance in carrying out their noble missions.
I join them all in paying my respects to the memory of the martyrs of national duty and the martyrs of the glorious Liberation Revolution, and I express all my consideration and esteem to my Mujahidate sisters and Mujahidine brothers, renewing to them, on the occasion of this blessed month of Ramadhan, my best wishes. May God accept your fasting and your prayers.
